DENTAL IMPLANTS
Dental implants help to replace missing or broken teeth without affecting the adjacent teeth. They’re also ideal when dentures do not fit properly or are difficult to adjust. But unlike other procedure, this is a complex procedure and often done over a period of several months. A dental implant refers to an artificial tooth root that’s placed on the jaw and intended to replace the natural tooth.
Dental Implant Process
The process begins when we conduct a series of tests including x-rays, gum analysis, and even a CAT scan of the jaw. The next step is to insert the implant into the jawbone using a screw. The gums are stitched and the implant is allowed to heal. This takes about 4 to 6 months- until then, a temporary crown is placed to allow the patient continue with his normal activities. The final stage of the process is place the new tooth on the implant. Depending on the number of teeth required, you can opt for single or multiple implants.
Benefits of Dental Implants
Unlike bridges, implants can be placed without affecting the adjacent teeth. They’re fixed to the bone and hence offer better stability. In fact, with proper care and oral hygiene, they may outlive you!
